I second that motion. Ignition kill switch is good idea too.

The Dept. of Elder Affairs will give you the number for Adult Protective Services in the county that you reside. Get out the phone book, look in the gov't section, find Dept. of Children ) and Families(DCF). If there is not a specific phone number for APS, call the DCF number. Once you make that call TOMORROW, an investigator will be out within 24 hrs. (state statute). Now, the earliest this can get rolling is Thursday. Do let APS and the PD know that you have locked up dad's truck. I had to stash that gentleman's car at my apt. and did inform APS what I did. There was no problem. The evaluations are not as horrible as you may think they are. The ones I have observed were very well done and handled in a harmless manner for the evaluee.

The APS investigation will be pretty painless. Sure, your dad will be upset. That's just another sign of his incompetence. Please have your mother evaluated at the same time rather than go through this with her at another time. You don't want your mother awarded control over your father's person and property should your father want her to. Your father does have the right to request this. Your mother will receive official notice of any proceeding that APS pursues. And, your father does have the right to appear at his competency hearing. The court does want the potential ward to appear when possible.

I understand the volatile situation. Things will get better. It takes 6-8 weeks for all this. Time is of the essence. Avoid arguments with dad. That will only fuel his fire. Things are pretty hot now.

Thanks Blondie & rmet4, I'll get on it asap. I only have about a 4 hr. window each day (most of the time but not everyday) to handle business outside of my home due to all my responsibilities here, in and around the home.........

Don't have to be concerned over mother being given or put in control of anything. She can barely control any aspect of her own life. Remember she is legally blind and almost totally blind now & suffering terribly from all kinds of pains & conditions that we are doing our best to keep under control somewhat. She can hardly walk, I already do everything for her except toilet or bath business (although I do wash & cut her hair & cut toenails and trim facial hair with tweezers, got pretty good at that over the years :D )........ She would not want to be responsible for any of his matters nor would he want her to be nor is she mentally/emotionally capable or intellectually capable etc............ My eldest sis in Calif. is the only one my father trusts to some degree because she kisses his but- over the phone IMO. :)

Oh yeah, we are forgetting something. If I lock up his car etc. he may just jump on the bus or hitch a ride again and just buy another car or truck in a few hours, probably at the same nearby dearlership too! He did it a couple years ago when we had that arguement about fixing his old car but to spite me he went right out & in a few hours, spent $16,000 plus on this new lil truck (window sticker price etc.).

Hmmmmmm, what a headache I think I will have tomorrow. Thanks though to you both for trying your best to help me. I will be on the phone a lot tomorrow once the initial blast is over. I'll probably have pis_ & vinegar all over my face. ;)

rmet,
The website and numbers are useful to Jay. I'm saving him a phone call. Elder Affairs will give him the number for his county's APS at DCF. That's how the system works here in FL. :)

Yeah, I'd rather deal with another Hurricane Andrew or even this Ivan (the terrible) rather than what I have going on here now. ;) :(

Would you believe there's another one (Jeanne) brewing and heading this way?

Is your dad's name Ivan by any chance? :D

Just kidding. Gotta keep a sense of humor. ;)

Yeah that is all we need now, yet another one. I'm still leaving the plywood shutters up for now even though I'm sick of them.

No pop's name is not Ivan....LOL.... :)
