I was offered a new job opportunity with a new company. I accepted I accepted and turned in my resignation. I received a call on 12/23 they said everything was good I passed the drug test for drugs (marijuana, cocaine and hard drugs). It showed positive for medical drugs It came back positive for Alprazolam. I explain I have a handicapped son and he uses the medication twice a day I have to crush it and give it in apple sauce or sometimes in pudding or just place it in his mouth and poor water I indicated that I would take the test again or maybe the fact that I handle the medication it got in my system. I already gave notice to my other job. What are my options if any?

The chances that the drug got in your system in the way you describe are virtually nil. Perhaps you ought to wear gloves when doing these things?

You might want to go see if you can get your old job back because nobody is going to buy your story. But some states do require that you be able to retest at your own expense. Your problem is that in many cases that retest request must be done within 24 hours. Your other problem is that you are denying you have the drugs in your system just that you didn't take them intentionally so we are back to nobody believing the story.

Guys, I thnk you for your feedback but it feels as I am convicted. I do not smoke or drink. I am in my 50's I have no need to lie. They have not resent the offer they said with the holidays the person they need to talk to is out on holiday. I am not going to be able to get my old job back they moved someone to that position. I am going to start using gloves and as I am not a medical professional I cannot say how drugs get in the system. I am willing to pay for another test. After some discussion with the wife the only thing we can think of is I crush it and pour it in apple sauce or pudding sometimes he won't eat it all and I have finished it that is what we think is giving me a positive. PayrollHRGUY I am not denying I have the drug in my system I was not aware of it.

I appreciate the feedback but I am not asking to get beat up or be called a liar. If the test came back positive it's positive I am not denying it in my system I just do not know-how. I can not get my old job back. I am looking for advice if there is another option.

No one is beating you up, they're just pointing out that your story isn't believable.

Your only option is to look for another job. Because I doubt that the new employer is going to want to hire you.

Xanax tablets should never be crushed/broken to administer as that can change absorption rates. Also if your son is not eating all of the pudding/applesauce/whatever then he is not getting the full prescribed dosage, and as a benzo a sudden decrease in dosage can cause seizures or other health problems.

If your son can't/won't take pills then ask his doctor for another method to dose him.

I won't even comment on your stupidity of eating Xanax-laden applesauce or pudding and then expecting a clean drug test.

In the future you don't resign your job just based upon a conditional offer of employment. It seems unlikely that they gave you anything more than that considering the drug test hadn't been completed yet.

Thanks for the advice but I crushed them and broken them with doctors knowledge. I don’t want to be rude like you are calling me stupid but I was not asking for medical advice my son is 30 years old and we have a group of specialists so please reframe from offering medical advice and name calling. When I crush the med we place it on top portion of apple sauce or pudding after one or two spoon it looks like it’s gone.
His medical condition is not the discussion. I was seeking advice on what else I can say or do. Rudeness , judgement, if you have no advice you should say nothing . Very disappointed i know I made mistake but it seems judgement first and insults no consideration on how this affects people life. Thanks
