I think I figured out why there are so many SCAM's. It is because no one will stop the ones that are reported. On accident I found out that it is NOT hard to bring down a spoofed/imitation web site. And from I have gathered over the past few days it is that the imitation web sites that are the biggest threat (Paypal...). They look very official and even fool the customer reps of the respective company enough for them to tell you, when asked, that the FAKE site is a real site and feel safe to do business with it.

Anyway - I brought down one FAKE by simply automating the capability to search the site. As the url reported above http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.odapi. com/ssl1/eBayISAPI.dll.php?ShowPage=Item&item=184632436392 - IS OUT OF COMMISION. The automated search/browse can access the site over a million times if a few hours from my home computer. Within the first 2 hours the site was so saturated with calls the server was brought to a craw and someone had to intervein.

Moreover, companys can stop the web sites from communicating with their systems by simply using a firewall/proxy servers which would also stop the scam in most cases.

Thru my quest to help other would be victims in this scam I found two more FAKE eBay web sites. 1 thru google search and 2 working a sting on the same folks who got me.
1 http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.awcmd.com/ssl1/eBayISAPI.dll.php?ShowPage=SignIn&item=114627477980
2 http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.asrcs.com/ssl1/eBayISAPI.dll.php?ShowPage=Item&item=264637088300

These two FAKE sites I have reported to eBay several days ago and they are still functioning. I have yet to try to shut these down. I'm going to give eBay and CastleCops (http://www.castlecops.com/modules.php?name=Fried_Phish&fp=phish&id=68337&in=1) until Friday to shut them down and if they are not shutdown, Friday night I will shut them down.

Most of FAKE sites are likely on less powerful servers and or hosted by company's that sell their services by mB downloaded/bandwidth. In this case, with no help from anyone, fighting fire with fire seams to be the trick.

The morel is that you need to stop fraudsters 1 at a time in a timely manner by simply trying to stop them.

Why did you follow THEIR link to paypal? You never do that. You open a new window instead.

Ebay receives probably thousands of emails for service. I'm sure everything doesn't get pulled immediately. Sorry that you are having difficulties with ebay. Good luck on your lawsuit.

You were scammed because you allowed yourself to be scammed.

What kind of car did you expect to get for your $2995?
Who at Ebay did you speak to? I have NEVER heard of anyone verbally recommending any seller, period!

I feel for you but you go after the scammer because your attempts at receiving anything from Ebay will cost you far more than you MIGHT receive! If you can find him!

Problem is that when you used Western Union, and there are many warnings about using that service, your money could have been retrieved anyplace in the world!

FYI, as a lark, when I am bored, I wander about Ebay and look for scammers, many of whom have hijacked the user names of others. Many are easy to find. I turn them in to safe harbor and soon they disappear, only to pop back up under someone elses user name that they stole. Sometimes I email the bidders who are grateful I have saved them money.

These scammers profit because people do not educate themselves!!!

You say you have the power (or knowledge) to shut fake sites down. If tah is true you shoul dno thave allowed yourself to be scammed.

My advise, your money is gone. Lesson learned. Leave it go.

Good luck.

Why after a month does ebay continue to allow same MO

Here are twolinks - if you hurry and look they will be there.

1. Listing on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volkswagen-Beetle-New-1998-present-excellent-2001-Volkswagen-Beetle-GLS_W0QQitemZ190039667085QQihZ009QQcategoryZ31876QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

2. Listing on FAKE eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.asrcs.com/ssl2/eBayISAPI.dll.php?ShowPage=Item&item=624642981328

eBay should not have told me that the FAKE site was a REAL eBAY site.

eBay should have stopped this exact MO

The FAKE site interacts with the REAL site, thus this is an eBAY platform/System used to defraud users.

I doubt anyone from Ebay told you that was a real site. It's obviously a cgi redirect and Ebay does not "allow" it.

No, it does not "interact" with ebay and is NOT an "Ebay platform/system" anything..

Did you reall think a 2001 VW w/91,000 miles was "NEW" as it was listed?

If you thought you would receive that car for that price, you allowed yourself to be scammed.

Not just one eBay rep but two told me that the FAKE site was a real site.

Do not say things that you don't know or tried. - > Yes, the FAKE site does interact with the REAL site. I have on video me changing my address in the real system and then loging into the FAKE system and they newly change data is displayed on the FAKE system.

If you don't believe me and you have an eBay account you should try it.

1. Go to log in screen of FAKE site - http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.asrcs.com/ssl2/eBayISAPI.dll.php?ShowPage=SignIn&item=624642981328
2. Enter your eBay user name and password - (notice your address is on FAKE site)
3. Go to real site and change your address.
4. Go to FAKE site and log in again. - you will see that it change on FAKE site also
5. Go to REAL eBay site and change your PASSWORD.

After this simple test i'm sure that you will conclude the same - One System/Platform.

Moreover - I have a list of 30+ user accounts that the scammers have used/using.
I have a list of possible Victims of over 10.

Yes, eBay and anyone can watch the defrauders next moves by looking in the imgs folder of the FAKE site - opps, they have directory browsing enabled.
http://cgi.ebay.com.ebaymotors.itemz6848xlhz005private6315rdz1cmd.asrcs.com/ssl2/imgs - each image represents a person who contacted the scammers from the REAL eBay system. This is one list of 4 sites.

Yes, the Bug is not that good of one - they have more realistic ones.

remember scams prey on the greedy.

YES, it is a real site. NO it's not a REAL EBAY SITE!! And Ebay does NOT allow this, they just cannot police it!!

YES, they can be linked BY YOU and if you think I am stupid enough to log into a fake site with my real email name and password, that explains a lot of why you were taken.

YOU are linking them once you log in with your real password and YES that will allow your name to change on the fake site.

NOTE, if anyone is fool enough to log their user name and password into a fake ebay site then you too will suffer the problem of identity theft like JOE!!! DON'T DO IT!!

Like I said - eBay has known for over a month of this MO, it is their duty to police it or get out of the business. I was able to shutdown 2 FAKE sites and have told eBay how to take the others down. Yes, I can take the others (with same code behind) down, but you know what, it suree is not my job to police their business nor their customers.

eBay told me to feel safe using the FAKE site. So if it can fool eBay reps it can even fool the wise.

I don't think you are stupid and that was not the intent. I only wanted to show you that the FAKE site does interact with the real site. As a web designer/system engineer I know eBay can block the interaction in many ways, thus it is not me linking them, it is eBay allowing the link.

Correct - Do not log into the site unless you want to see the interation between the sites and you take steps to ensure you don't get your identity taken. i.e. change all data in real site to bogus information or create a TEST eBay account.

BTW - They did not take my identity - only my CASH.

I thought this FREE Advice would help me but so far I have pretty much only been told that I'm a fool.

With people out there that think that a business can get away from protecting their customers from hazards that are easily cleanable, then this is going to be a rough one to win. But I'm thinking alls you need is a few good system/network engineers experts testify on how the interaction can be blocked and that is all that it will take to prove eBay is VERY negligent.

If nothing else, this will be a class action law suit. Watch and see.

No one called you a fool.

Yes, you did lose money, yes, you did make a mistake and no, you probably will not get it back.

No, I do not want to test something I know will be true (these sites are plenty and people fall for them, and even better scams by the minute) however that is still not the fault of Ebay.

The fault, however was not that of Ebay, and if you think you have a class action suit and wish to spend the next several years and big bucks on a lawsuit, that is your right.

I give up.

Enjoy your trip.
