I doubt it. They attempted to have her live with her father at one point and he changed his mind at the last minute. This man has done many illegal/unscrupulous things over the years and seems mainly concerned with money, not helping his kids. It is a very, very sad situation. There are many facts I have not revealed. I realize it seems as if my friend is trying to throw her child away but if you knew the entire story you would understand why she is at her wits end. I really appreciate your time with this matter.

look, i see where Wire is going with this, but i'm going to give mom the benefit of the doubt and hope you are just not very good at relaying mom's concerns since you are a third party. it's very hard to give advice to someone who is biased.

and yes, mom needs to be more active. the child will NOT be emancipated. so if she really intends to go that route, it will be a dead end. she has other options, she needs to utilize them.

The kid wasn't born bad. More likely she's got some mental health problems that need addressing. The acting out is truly a cry for help. It's not too late. But mom needs to start acting like a grown up. Call the police when she runs away and have her brought home. Send her to therapy or even to a mental hospital if that's what she needs.

Actually, if your friend is suicidal over this, it's likely the mental health problems run in the family. She needs to get HERSELF the help she needs too. She can't be a good mom to a troubled kid if she's barely hanging on herself.

The answer is not cutting the kid off to let her sink and swim on her own. The answer is being the kind of parent she needs - and if that means the kid hates her for a couple of years, so be it, but if she does her job, kid will appreciate it in the long run.
