On a second note, my former boss wants me to pay for the rekeying of the office because I wasn't able to get the key to work into him quickly enough. Does he have the right to deduct the rekeying from my check, if I even get it?

I really don't see why you have a legal obligation to pay for the rekeying. However, you should mention this matter also to your own attorney. If you are obligated to pay, I would have the cost deducted from the sum of money that they will pay me to sign the release.
