Points don't make much difference for insurance companies. Every state has a totally different system of points - insurance companies look at the nature of the violation. Speeding is a major moving violation.
Your "near spotless" driving record doesn't mean anything at this point, and would only come into play if and when you are convicted and the penalty is determined by a judge.
