Father says he has something called intersital cystitis
and that it affects his ability to work and will more so in the future.
Another question, if he gives the judge a doctors note saying
he has this and it effects his ability to work would the judge
lower the amount of child support or would it not be lower
until he goes on disablity?
My now 12 year old neice has Interstitial Cystitis(IC) and yes it most definitely can be and is a debilitating and painful disease. She ended up being homebound from school for a year b/c it was too painful for her. It's been described as having feeling like you have lit matches placed against the inside of your bladder. I've actually heard tapes my sister made of my neice screaming in the middle of the night b/c she hurt so bad, to listen to them, if you didn't know what was going on, you would swear she was literally dying a slow and agonizing death. That's the bad news for you, the good new is that while there is NOT a cure, there are alot of different treatment options which allow one to live a normal life. The problem with that is what works for one, doesn't work for another, and it took my sister a good year to find a dr. familiar with IC and to find a treatment that WORKED.

There are people with the disease that live normal lives, my sister, through research has found people that are so used to living with the pain, they refuse to try anything else, which hopefully your ex won't be. I don't know what a judge could or would do in this case with your ex, however, I just thought you may want to know that if your ex was just recently diagnosed with IC, it could take some time for him, if he is willing to he could find a treatment that would allow him to live normally and work.

Good luck!

I wanted to let you know also, just to show you it can be done! that my neice is now back in school(not counting time off for Katrina  ) she is on the swim team, cheerleads and plays basketball. I can't tell you how bad the past year had been for her, but she has come back with a vengeance!

Here is a website about IC if you want to know more about what you are going to be dealing with with your ex...

Just curious, Username2005. As you did know what the nature of his illness was, and the name of the diagnosed illness, had you gone online to research what it was, what it did to a person, and how your ex was likely feeling? If the treatments would also be physically difficult for him?

This IS your child's father, after all.

Here is a link re disability and IC, If dad qualifies for SSDI and there is a back payment you may be able to get some of the arreages covered in addition to future dependents benefits. Call SSA to see what the payments might be and to be sure your child is included in the claim, and you as the child's rep payee, in addition to the courts ordered child suppport which can be adjusted once disability is established.

I did do research on his disease online to learn more about it.
It looks like people can have symptoms for a while and then they
can go away and come back and so on. It does sound like a serious
condition and hopefully it will improve for him.
