What is the name of your state? MI

A friend called last night to tell me a collection agency called her to collect a bill that she had 15 years ago, when she was married. They left her a message on her answering machine, using her last name from 15 years ago. When she got divorced 15 years ago, she went back to her maiden name.

She has credit reports back to 1999 which do not show this account either with the CA or the original creditor. SOL in MI is 6 years....if they call again and ask for her, using her long ago married name, can she simply tell them they have the wrong number? And if they mail anything to her using that last name, can she simply "Return to Sender, Addressee unknown?

Also, don't know if it matters, but CA is in TX, she's in MI. Anyone know if an out of state collection agency needs to be licensed or bonded in MI?

Finally, is this CA completely out of luck on collecting this debt?
Thanks in advance for all help.

15 years is far beyond the SOL.
I'd send a letter stating you've no recollection of the alleged debt and in any event, it's beyond the SOL.
Tell them to never contact her about this matter again. Send it CRRR.
