Finding an Injury Case Number

What is the name of your state? NY

Are civil cases i.e. personal injury cases a matter of public record? How would I go about finding the case number for a case involving my ex? It is in Nassau County, NY. I am assuming it was filed in Supreme Court. I only have his last name - will they be able to help me there or am I $hit out of luck? Nothing vindictive going on here...

go to the nearest courthouse in that county and ask if they have a name search for civil cases. it will help if you know what year the suit was filed.
