I still keep tabs on people who are in your situation. And the story is always the same. Just get it over with, spend your 4-5 days there, enjoy the food (it's not bad at all), then come back home to your family, and enjoy the holidays. Nothing to stress about, trust me. Good luck, and keep me posted. My email address is the same as my name here just add @gmail.com to the end of it.

yes irishgoat is right because im very close to ft benning ga and i to was gonna turn myself in to the closest so i called the awol center at ft benning to talk to them and the LT. was extremely rude telling me how he would trace my call and have a marshall at my doorstep within 24hrs but i knew he was bluffing and he said if i didnt then he would lock my up for 6months so i would seriously advise you turn try ansd srape up chang to buy a one way ticket to ft knox because u want to take the shortest way out thats possible...

i was just wondering if you have to wait until the thirty days are over to turn yourself in or can you do it before. and what if your recruiter knows where you are at will they really turn you in or are they just saying that. any further information would be great.

confused nina, check the sticky post at the top. If you return before you are DFR (usually 30 days, but possibly up to 3 months), they will send you back to your previous unit. Call the number you'll see in the sticky post after 30 days, and ask them if you are DFR.

Extenuating Circumstances

Hi all, Ive been awol about 6 months. was an Infantryman stationed @ fort lewis, wa. I didnt go awol because i disliked the army . I was sniper school recommended, soldier of the month and quarter , company guide on bearer and master breacher on my team . I was also a team leader @ E-3 . My wife had very serious problems throughout the course of my stay at fort lewis and she was misdiagnosed twice by army physicians @ madigan army medical center. I was too naive about the way the system works at the time so i didnt question it. I took it up with my chain of command and they tried to get it resolved which they couldnt. I also tried to get my wife enrolled in the EFMP (exceptional family member program) which my batallion commander denied to us claiming i was trying to shirk a deployment, which is not and never has been the case. Ive wanted to be a soldier since i was 4 years old and i was a great one. When it came down to it i had to go awol, i had to choose to goto iraq or let my wife fall apart in my absense ( manic depression, seperation anxiety, seasonal depression(WA state rain ) , and paranoia. These are serious problems that I cannot have ignored and let her fend for her self. She has no contact with her own family and my mother is not in the physical state or mental state to take care of my wife in my absense. I believe i was pretty justified in my action and i dont hold it against the army because of the way things happened, theres ****ty doctors in the civilian world as well.

I plan on going to Fort Sill and present my case and ask to stay in. But had a few questions.

1. If i ask to be discharged could i get back onto active duty?
2. If i stay in could i re-class?
3. Ive been DFR'd ( my chapter NCO @ fort lewis made sure i was PROXY Cleared from the records at fort lewis basically removing my records from ever being in the unit and from the army for that matter.)
4.If i stay in as 11B could i just get orders to a new INF. unit?

I also realize and am prepared to goto Iraq .

If any1 could also give me some things to say to get the things i want. THanks

You can go to Ft Sill, and they will likely send you back to Ft Lewis where your COC there will determine what to do with you. Just depends on how you plead your case, and their mood. And remember you placed your family before the mission, and the Army doesn't seem to like that. They are probably going to think that it is likely to happen again, and discharge you. Also, be prepared to spend a little bit of time in jail (15-90 days). You could luck out and get everything you want, but it's really out of your hands. Best of luck to you.

Get ready

This is for the active duty soldiers(in a unit not AIT or basic) AWOL since thats what I am. Not going to Sill but am going back to Lewis on my own accord. Planning to ask to be deployed now that my situation ( as posted above ) is solved. I will keep yall updated on what is going to happen, whether i get to go or not. and send me to jail. Thanks everyone again for the advice.
