Grandmother Dies - House Selling Price Goes To Grandchildren Question

As Grandmother passed away a few months ago, the house is now up for sale and the money is supposed to go to the Grandchildren. The grandchildren's parents get the money first and then the parents delegate the money to each grandchild.

Scenario : Currently, the home is being sold and each parent is saying they will only pay out $1000 a month to each grandchild (each grandchild is in their 30's or 40's). Each grandchild is upset that the parents will not pay each a lump sum.

Wording of the will

The Grandmother made out the will when the grandchildren were still kids. She stated that the money goes to the Grandchildren but did not state anything else....it just states the money is to be given to the parents to give to the grandchildren.

The wording in the WILL says that Grandmother at her passing will give entire monies from sale of her home to the Grandchildren. Monies will be distributed first off to the Parents in which the Parents will give to the Grandchildren.

Now the parents want to keep the money and only give monthly installments to the grandchildren.

The Grandmother was often told to update her will because all the Grandchildren (since the time she made her will), are now all now Adults. Is there anything us Grandchildren can do?

She was advised to update her will, I take it that was on advise of her grandchildren? She made an informed decision, not to update, thus the parents are the ones responsible for distribution and the grandchildren are fortunate to be remembered in the will at all.

So, are you disputing the will, now? Or did you need to use Grandma's money that she was nice enough to leave you, all at once?

If that's the real language from the will, the grandchildren are lucky to get anything at all, because the money is not held "in trust" by the parents -- a will cannot allow the grantor to reach beyond the grave and control how "gifts" are used, and this will just gives the money to the parents -- the language giving the grandkids money is NOT binding on the parents. Grandma should have set up a trust, or should have been more explicit in her will, if she really wanted the grandkids to have the money.

After all, it states in the will that the proceeds from the sale of the house will go to the grandchildren.

If you quoted accurately from the will, it was so horribly written that only a court will be able to interpret what (if anything) it means.
