Folks....while of course its possible that both Cameron's mom and grandmother posted here...or while its possible that this was a fantasy planted by someone to "get to us"....Its also highly possible that both stories are true, and are unconnected.
I have had direct involvement with at least 300 cases in the last 5-8 years of grandparents who "tricked" the parents of the grandchildren into giving them custody or guardianship....and all of them were just as unrepentant as this grandmother appears to be.
On top of that, the saddest part about it is that in many or most of the cases I have been involved in, the grandparents did it for financial gain....or did it because they wanted a "do over" at parenting. In any case, it always involved a young parent signing a document that they were young and naive enough to either not understand (or read)....or to trust the older adults in their lives not to screw them over.
One case I dealt with was purely money. The grandparent was on disability with a high SS base. The grandparent alone got 1800.00 a month in disability, with two kids the grandparent got 3200.00.
Think about it....what does a previous CP do when they have lived off child support and welfare all their lives or disability...and it has ended (in all or part) because all of their children are emancipated??? Get custody of grandkids!
Or what does an "empty nester" grandparent (particularly controlling ones) when the no longer call the shots in their children's lives? Again, get custody of grandchildren.
I in no way want to disparage the many wonderful grandparents who have taken up the slack for their dysfunctional children or children-in-law. However, the reality of the situation as that some of these grandparents do these things for dishonorable reasons.
