NO.. Well just that I was hopeing to get a home, When my divorce became final, with the new tax credit extended to April... But this will take alot longer than that, Oh well .... But I do have to say now I have to get a lawyer We have been separated for a year...Anyway She has two part time jobs an one she makes 20 the other 30 something ... I only make 18 an hour, I thought I was being fair spliting the cars, gave her all furniture ect.. I was takeing my own car, thats it!.. But she wants blood out of a stone. Or at least for me to empty my pockets. I put her through school too, my gosh were is the justice.?

If she's asking for spousal support, that would've been really good to know from the beginning....

It said for the courts to decide. I guess I have 30 days to comply back . Sorry, I did not make that clear, I was just more interested in my original post, if I had any rights, because I filed first in Nevada. That was my initial question . But yes, in these papers there is no amount set? I guess it is time to get a lawyer.

For the courts to decide what exactly? What assets there are? Who will get what? Both?

She might.

If your figures are correct and she's making $50 K while you're making $36 K, I would definitely file a response and ask for support. It will then be up to the court to decide who gets support (if anyone).

In general, IF ANY ALIMONY is awarded at all, it will usually be the higher income earner who will pay (could be an exception if there are extraordinarily high medical expenses, for example). In CA, it is routinely awarded for 1/2 to 1/3 the length of the marriage - a bit longer than other states. CA is also unusual in that it sometimes awards support even in short term (a couple of years) marriages.

If you really are the lower income earner and she ends up paying support, her filing in CA might have done you a favor. Not to mention that since you work in CA, it may be easier to make the court hearings.

You are traditionally obligated to pay her alimony because she is a woman.

In a nutshell, that's exactly where she's coming from.

It takes 20 days, once she is served. in Nevada It takes 6 monthes in California, That is a big difference to me

Believe me, no divorce is over in 20 days !!

How do you believe that Nevada has personal jurisdiction over your wife or any California property? California has personal jurisdiction over BOTH of you. As well as subject matter jurisdiction.

Ok, that one I absolutely can believe. However, then why wouldn't she work full time as a nurse instead of working two part time jobs? Nursing is one field where there is plenty of work available.

No kidding - but honestly it's sometimes more lucrative that way. A nurse friend of my ex worked every other weekend on death row in Delaware...she made more during those weekends than she'd make in two weeks working full time.

(she did both actually but that's besides the point)

I also know someone who worked only every other weekend (double shifts) and Wednesdays (double shifts) and made enough to support herself and her share of the children's support, without having to work at all when she had the kids.

It irritated the heck out of her ex, because he thought she should have to work full time, but she actually worked 8 shifts every 14 days, so it was nearly full time, she got full time bennies, and the judge was just fine with that.
