Wow...Wyldrush...you need to quit posting your opinion on things because you are suggesting she lie in court! That is against the law and could get her into criminal territory as opposed to just civil.Bad advice.

She did have a verbal contract with this woman or she would not owe her two months rent. There was obviously an agreement as to how much rent would be paid each month.

Garnishing someone's wages is actually very simple, and OP...just because you do not have a job now does not mean you will never have one. These judgments carry over for a very long time. Many companies frown on having to process garnishments and will fire you instead.

"As long as you work off the books you are ok"???? YOU need to QUIT with the terrible advice.Working off the books and EVADING INCOME TAXES is illegal in every state!

OP...if you have half a brain you will ignore all of Wyldrush's advice. She most certainly is not an attorney.

Ugh!!

When the LL gets a judgement she can sell it to a collection agency. They are very persistant and it is easy for them to track you down.

My advice (if I was your friend) show up to court, do not say anything to incriminate yourself. If asked about rent, state you did not have anything in writing. You had an understanding with LL but lost your job. After 2 months of trying to secure a job you decided to move out. LL stated I can stay there till I got back on my feet, however it was not coming and I relocated to work things out. Now she wants rent money. something in those lines. Do not mention LEASE or rental money.
where did I tell OP to lie. make your answers vague, like LAWYERS and Poiticians do. They did not have anything in writing, I said say that. Why not read the post again. I mentioned do not mention lease or rental money. Why bring up something. Let the LL bring it up. Renter has no reason to bring up any evidence against themselves.

Like I said before, if she contacted you to defend her, your stance would be much much different. I am not a lawyer like mentioned, but I am a creditor in a different industry and spend enough time in court. Wage garnishment is not the easiest like you claim. If you can not find out where they work you can not garnish the wages. Many people simply quit jobs when ex wives or girlfriends find guys and hit them with child support because making less is still more with child support. Not that I am supporting this. But there are some truths in that statement.

Oh yeah..All LAWYERS are ETHICAL and do not break laws..hummmmm thats why we have the lawyer jokes.

You are making this about the attorneys and that is not what this poster's question is about.

It is in the posters best interest to pay the money back, and to try to make arrangements to do so or these two months are going to negatively impact her for many years to come in areas of her life she may not have even thought of yet.

Your implication was clear. And the comment about working under the table???

You really need to stop with such harmful and unscrupulous advice.

Yes I understand that I have not paid her, but my question is she does not have my social how can she give me a judgement with out my personal information
Getting your SSN number is child's play. It could take up to 10 minutes for someone with experience to get it. You are hanging your hat on the wrong argument.

I agree wtih swrdmbo, your implication was clear. I can understand that you would want to help someone, but you are causing more harm than good. Filing bankrupcty sometimes is not the answer...they will likely do it again in 5 years, knowing how easy it was to do it the first time around.
And to lie about things, this also goes against God. I know, I know, everyone lies, but this type of lie is different. LIke swrdmbo said, "negatively impact her for many years to come in areas of her life she may not have even thought of yet." This will also impact an area where it REALLY MATTERS.
OP needs to pay her the two months rent and go on.

Let's be honest here...

OP is clearly shocked and surprised that the credit fairy is going to catch up with them. You'd be surprised just how much info there really is out there to find.

But let's tell it like it really is.

OP is just trying to figure out the best way to get away from this debt. This has been OP's goal from the start. Ignore the debt, and it goes away, it will never catch up. If I do this, will they catch me? What happens if I put my head in the sand and ignore it, they can't possibly make me legally responsible if I don't acknowledge it, right?

Let's face it. This person skipped out and never looked back. They're trying to figure out just what it will take to make their fantasy a reality, so they never have to deal with this again. The problem is that it will never happen.

Welcome to the real world, OP. NOW PAY UP OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES!!!
