I had some intensive dental work done on me a while ago. Before the work was done, the dentist told me it would be "about $3,500" so I agreed to have him work on me. During the course of the treatment, the dentist realized he needed special tools instead of normal tools to work on me. When it was all done I got a bill for $4,100. I sent him a check for 3,500 and he deposited it in his bank and then filed a law suit against me for $600.00. Do I have to pay that $600.00?

I am not a lawyer, but you said "the dentist told me it would be "about $3,500" "

Nothing in writing means he can charge you 1 million and you would have to pay, the work (service) has been provided.

I tell my pts that the average charge for a biopsy is "about 95-100 dollars", but if complications arise during the procdure, I charge them for the necessary extra equipment and time, as is only right.
