Find an insurance agent who speaks your parents' language so he or she can explain everything to them in detail. That would be a much better idea since an agent actually knows everything about insurance instead of who who knows nothing.
Funny you say that, because that is precisely what they did.

That didn't work out too well.. did it?

While it is true I have limited knowledge of homeowner's insurance.. I'm pretty sure I can read up on it and learn about it. I won't ever see myself being an expert at it, but that doesn't prevent me from "knowing" about it. I mean, isn't that part of the reason why forums were created? To teach the community about something they may have no knowledge or? To educate the community of some tidbits of information that may not be readily apparent?

Look, whatever it is... I definitely appreciate the suggestions and input. But I definitely I feel more hostility if anything.

What kind of homeowner's policy is there that does not include thief of YOUR parent's property? Is this a fire policy?

What kind of of coverage do you OP?
I'll need to look more into it. Apparently, my parents did not buy a homeowner's policy.. They picked up some other coverage that isn't called "homeowner's." I say that because my father spoke with his agent today and that was what he was told. In some ways, I felt my dad was either taken advantage of (they want the account, sold the cheapest plan to make it attractive) or my dad was too trusting and too lax in making his decision. He felt the odds of theft was small (we've never been robbed) and we live in a decent neighborhood.

On a much cheaper commodity (i.e. car)... he actually has full coverage. But in that case, I actually have input and in fact, I help manage his car insurance for him. I see nothing wrong with that.

From what I know --- We have liability coverage, property damage coverage, and some other things that I can't recall. But one of the things that is glaringly lacking is personal property coverage.

I love how you blame the agent. More likely what happened was the agent gave your dad a quote for the policy he recommended and dad said no, that's too expensive, give me something cheaper.

I am a very fair person and try to see it from both sides.

If you read my post, you can clearly see that I said suggested either the agent gave us the cheaper plan OR my dad overlooked the imp of having theft coverage.

Please don't assign blame until you've read my post again.

Here's the post again for your reference:

Mods, please close this thread. I've gotten the information I needed from the community. I do not want this to turn into a sparring thread especially since it was never my intention.

I appreciate the some of the useful insights and help.
