I'm not excusing any of the people involved for any intentional HARM that has occured, BUT grandma's death would probably NOT be considered murder. If she was terminally ill and receiving end stage pain management treatment, dying from an overdose of morphine would be considered a normal cause of death. Unfortunately, I know this from experience. In many terminal end stage patients, the pain gets continually worse as the end draws near. Each day it takes a larger amount of morphine to keep the patient free of pain. After a relatively short time, the drugs accumulates in the system and allows the patient to die peacefully. In most cases it only shortens the patiens life by a matter of a few days or possibly even just a few short hours. Had mom stopped the morphine so grandma wouldn't die on the op's anniversary, grandma would have spent her final few hours in excruciating pain.
