What is the name of your state? Louisiana

I am 18 years old.

Can I be expelled from a public school for having my hair "descend below the ear lobe or touch the collar"?

This is sexist because it only applies to male students. Isnt that agaisnt the constitution?

How can I be denied an education based on the legnth of my hair? Its a few inches past my shoulders and is kept clean.

I read on the article below that a school was sued becuase of the same thing.

Two years later, three members of a high school rock band called Sounds Unlimited in Dallas sued their school in federal court; that became the first high school haircut case appealed to the federal Circuit Courts of Appeals and to the U.S. Supreme Court.

My hair is more important to me then my education and im willing to get expelled for it,but I wish they would allow me to stay in school so I could graduate. Is there anything I can do to not be expelled? Can I sue the schoolboard if I get expelled? I am not cutting my hair.

Call the ACLU and ask them if they will take the case.

I was about to do this right before New Orleans (local ACLU) hurricane hit and flooded everything. Now what?

Then you are probably not going to amount to much in life...

Sure. Anyone can sue anyone in this day and age.

That is such a sad statement from the younger generation....

If this is the rule then put your hair in a ponytail or bun. Of course you'll look like a dork (or worse yet, a chick), but technically you'll be abiding by their rules as written.

Hey, it's not the responders' fault that the law doesn't say what you want it to say.

Only an idiot would be more concerned about the length of his hair than his education.

Some possible solutions without cutting your hair: Put all your hair in a high ponytail on the top of your head. Buy some hair goo and spike it all straight up. Buy a wig and stuff it all inside.

I don't think that a lawsuit regarding your hair is going to be high on anyone's priority list. Certainly your education should be higher on your priority list than your hair is.

OR, another solution would be to read the following:

Canady v. Bossier Parish School Board, 240 F.3d 437 5th Cir. 2001
Karr v. Schmidt, 460 F.2d 609, 5th Cir. 1972

And
Bethel v. Fraser, US Supreme Court, 1986

Then make an appointment at Super Cuts or find another school district out of state to continue your education.

Why do you have to quote case law all the time BB???
Can't you just be like us and make fun of the kid who rides the short bus to school?

The funny think about it PT is I got kicked out of three High Schools from 1969 to 1971 for my hair. I was below my shoulders and longer during the period.

McCLellan High School, Little Rock, Arkansas.
Northeast High School, Kansas City, Missouri
Rogers High School, Rogers, Arkansas

But the difference between my situation and this punk's is I didn't whine like a school girl
