If someone mentioned Jesus at an AA meeting, then that was the speaker's thoughts, and not the stance of AA.
AA speaks of a "higher power" using the term "God" in a rather generic form and that the "higher power" could be thought of in any terms he or she thinks fit.
Speaking as one who is very active in the recovery community - alcohol and drugs - it works. It works for those who want help and actively seek it. It doesn't work for those who do not want to change. It is a lifestyle choice, and it can and does work. But, it can't force a person into a life of sobriety, it can only help you along.
