Well, the car was not parked in a place where they could tow it. It was parked in a parking area for a park that has no posted closure signs and is frequented during late night hours by hunters and campers alike.

The car is 100% legal. There was nothing in it. The police did not indicate that there was any kind of scream or problem that had been reported to them, just that they wandered upon a parked car, placed their hand on the hood and felt the engine was warm at about 1 AM, and then searched the area until they found us 3 hours later... between which time at some point having opened the car and removed the personal items I talked about.

I wish the phone call to her parents had just resulted in embarassment and that's all. Unfortunately, I think they've developed distrust for me because they think I "masterminded" the trip out to the woods. In fact, it was her idea, and I communicated that, and it just sort of caused emnity between me and my girl. It's a more complex issue... and the lost keys suck too.

No one in my party offered any sort of resistance or attitude to the officers. We were all scared that we were in deep trouble, and none of us even opened our mouth unless questioned... our tones were cooperative and intimidated, not conflictive and dodgy...

These cops suck. I'm starting to believe almost all cops suck. Especially in my state.

Honestly, they did. (In response to CdwJava’s statement that it was questionable that they removed the items).
I don’t think “questionable” was a comment on the truthfulness of your claim, but rather a statement that the officers’ justification for doing it might be questionable. Apologies to CdwJava for taking the liberty to speak for him (especially if I’m wrong).
Do you...B) Opt to go without it, and keep a free hand in case you need to climb something?
I’ll take C) Leave the purse at home. If you had been in trouble and needed help that never came because the cops didn’t consider anything suspicious, you would be furiously yelling your head off, asking why they didn’t think a purse sitting right out in the open in an unlocked car was suspicious.
A car parked for 3 hours... does not a search warrant grant.
How did they know you had been there for three hours? Ya think maybe they called Horatio out to evaluate the erosion of the tire marks? Even if they did know, what difference would it make? Bad things can’t happen to people in three hours?
... and that gives an inscrupulous officer the leighway to STEAL MY BELONGINGS (see: car keys). No, I don't particularly trust people that "tawlk liyuk thiyus" and use foul language
I tawlk liyuk thius, and you can keyiss mah ayess. And it’s ‘leeway’ and ‘unscrupulous’. Honeychile.

The point is this, Chuckles: It’s an area known for attracting people that want to go up there and have a little fun, and the cops patrol that area to make sure nothing gets out of hand. They’re used to seeing cars parked there, but they also know that a woman wouldn’t willingly leave her purse unattended and out in the open. Ruling out willingly leaves unwillingly. They had to make sure you were okay. I don’t care how “bored” you think they were, traipsing around in the woods in the dark looking for people is not their idea of amusement. By the time they found you they were annoyed, hence the attitude.

my rights were trampled.
Bull. Him got hims widdle feewings hurt because the bad man was a mean poopyhead so you’ll show him, and THEN he’ll be sorry.

It is clear in reviewing this thread, that all the logic and reality of the world will never convince this idiot that the officers did nothing wrong.

The simple answer is.... if this idiot feels he has a problem, file a complaint with the enforcement agency and/or file a lawsuit. That is the only way that he will eventually be forced to accept reality.

Idiot?

You have no idea what it's like to be treated like crap by a bunch of ******* cops... maybe because you are ******* cops?

Okay, so, a woman wouldn't willingly leave her purse in a car? That's amazing... because, WHOOPSIE DAISY, SHE DID! On purpose! You see, when you live in a state like West Virginia... where people don't TYPICALLY STEAL YOUR ****, you just don't worry about it. These officers shyure do liyuv in theese here parts... and they know that.

Feelings hurt? No. Lost keys. Domestic problems that spawned as a result of this. Possibly missing other items. Forced to leave an area incorrectly (we had every right to be there... and every right to leave a woman's purse in the vehicle with her ID in it). The only feeling I get is unwelcome in a state park that my taxes go directly to support. The only other feeling I get is that these jerkwads that take my tax money and turn it into food on their table have the gaul to talk down on me like that. That's not hurt feelings. That's straight pissed off.

How did they know the car had been there? Read more carefully before you reply, IDIOT:

"just that they wandered upon a parked car, placed their hand on the hood and felt the engine was warm at about 1 AM, and then searched the area until they found us 3 hours later"

"They’re used to seeing cars parked there, but they also know that a woman wouldn’t willingly leave her purse unattended and out in the open. Ruling out willingly leaves unwillingly."

That's completely flawed logic, genius. A woman DID willingly leave her purse unattended. Not out in the open, in a jeep, parked in a parking space at a 95% empty public park. The purse being inside the jeep, doors locked or not... is not "out in the open", and any thief that would open a car door out in the woods like that has a lot of balls, because we'd almost certainly be within earshot of any kind of car-alarm, and we might just be out there hunting raccoons and be armed to the teeth.

Ruling out willingly leaves unwillingly? Whoever ruled out willingly is making a convenient leap of bull****.

You guys are just trolls. Come back when you can cite some actual legal code or something. This is a legal forum, I asked for legal advice. Not to be called an idiot by a couple of backwater retards with zero education or by some cop-affiliated idiot who wants to talk crap and wants to talk up how badass cops are.

If I wanted you guys to respond in the first place I'd have said:
"Please, forum trolls, come out and berate me uselessly in some kind of grade-school attempt to hurt my feelings. You'll get really far and I'll cry myself to sleep over your pathetic attempts to seem cool, mean, and halfway informed. Furthermore, please don't offer any ACTUAL advice or SUPPORT for the tripe you spew forth with any actual hyperlinks, documentation, or good advice. I'd rather someone just come on here and blindly defend a bunch of idiot police officers. If you aren't a troll, please don't reply."

And of the previous 2 posters, Gevalia has literally 0 useful posts to anyone and troll #2 has about a 90% troll-decent post ratio. Way to go guys, you're making the internet better every day! ;)

You are correct on that one. Could that be due to my realizing that acting like a 3rd grade dropout, threatening to hold my breath until I get my way, and just being a general idiot might just attract the attention of the authority's who are charged with the obligation to protect society from your 'kind'.

One question for you 'crap-for-brains'. If you are so pissed off and feel that this forum is worthless..... why are you still here??
We don't give a crap about your 'indignation'.

You posted your sophomoric droolings to a FREE legal advice forum. So, you got 'advice' that you don't agree with. Who cares?? If you don't like it, you are certainly free to go out and get a local attorney who gets paid to listen to your whining. Why do you feel that it is so important that you get the 'seal of approval' from a bunch of anonymous people?? Sounds like you have far more serious social problems than indicated by running around in the woods late at night, playing 'Blair Witch'.

Gee, Steve-O, you're so clever.

Because I find your steaming load of advice to be insufficient doesn't mean that I think the entire board is worthless. I know how internet forums work, I've been around since they were invented.

It goes like this:

Person A posts complaint seeking advice for fix.
Person B says "Gee I dunno"
Person C Says "Well there's probably no advice I can give but the situation sucks"
Troll A arrives to say "Person A is a moron, anyone with this problem is apparently full of stupidity" (Translation: I need attention, and you should please give it to me since I am being a bad child)

Troll B arrives to say "Oh, I can outdo you, Troll B, Person A is a *censored* ball of *censored* mother *censored* with hot sauce in his *censored* and smegma." (Translation: I'm worse off than troll A, and I need even more attention, but I'm 14 and can't really communicate yet.)

Person A: "WTF is that all about, you guys are retarded" (Translation: oops, I fed the troll, because I wasn't 100% sure they were trolls yet.

Person B: <silence, has vacated because of trolls, taking with him any knowledge that might have been useful in the future>

Troll A: "Apparently Person A has social problems and is a dimwit because otherwise he wouldn't come to such a retarded place as this forum and ask for ... what the name of the forum implies we should ask for... if he isn't going to take my troll-advice. (Translation: My social life is apparently way inferior to this guy's, because instead of doing something out in the woods, I sit and post hundreds and hundreds of posts on a forum and have nothing better to do than berate people and troll, so, to stop anyone from noticing this, I'll indicate that Person A has social problems far outweighing my own.)

And then, that's the part where Person A (Me) writes a post similar to this one, describing for the 800,000 time the nature of what an board troll is, and expertly showing you that it's the category into which you fit.

And... to actually reply to your post (I like feeding trolls sometimes).

1) I really thought you acted/talked like a cop. I understand your need to defend others of your breed. The military forums do this same thing, too. Marines defend marines, the Army defends the army... The military defends the military, and any civilian who dares open their mouth in defiance of anyone with any affiliation at all is automatically wrong, indignant, and ungrateful. Hi, I'm wrong, indignant and ungrateful... towards any police officers that blindly support one another. Suck it down. Now lick up the rest, and face this fact: Your associations and blind defenses cause you to make logical errors and guide people INCORRECTLY. If anyone doesn't belong on this forum, it'd be YOU.

2) "protect society from my kind"? Sure, protect society from people who are very gainfully employed... the people whose incomes pay the paychecks of the people that you so adore and protect. I respect police. Even while they were screwing me around, I was polite and respectful. "Yes sir, no sir, I'm sorry sir." You're giving them a real bad name, kiddo. I appreciate their duty as far as it goes to keep the roads safe... that is, pulling over obscene speeders, rounding up the morons in my area that mod their cars and race them, and performing investigations to keep thugs and other criminals off the street. Beyond that, they need to "Serve and Protect" not "Inspect and Collect"...

3) All you guys have done is make excuses for these cops to go through my junk without a search warrant. Nobody likes excuse-makers. Quit being babies and suck it up. Every civilian I've even remotely mentioned this to (even including the girlfriend's parents) say I should contact the attorney general's office and explain it to them, and that some form of reprimand is in order, even if just for the language. I just thought i'd come here to see if there might be a lawyer who would be like "Oh, that's a good case, you should definitely persue it, it might get you your keys back and you might be able to sue". Instead, I get trolls, so, if anyone hurts the credibility of this forum, it's you morons. I'd love to give a lawyer my business on this case, if someone could use their ACTUAL LEGAL EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE to cite an example of a similar case and what was done in THAT SCENARIO. Since you guys obviously can't... this is the part where you SHUT YOUR FACES ;). I don't need a "seal of approval" from a bunch of random internet morons. I need free legal advice from someone who has business giving it... which is... SURPRISE!!!! NOT YOU!

4) "crap-for-brains" ... what, were you afraid you'd get shut down by a forum admin if you used the real-deal on that one? Come on, you can do better than that, "poopy pants".

oooooh, burrrrn. (Would you like to continue this Jr. High Action, or just shut up? I vote for the latter.)
