What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I recently submitted a claim to my insurance company to cover damage caused by wind to my roof. The insurance agent with whom I spoke estimated the damage to be approximately $1,100.00. I spoke with him on the phone and this estimate was calculated over the phone by the agent. After my deductible, I was told I'd be receiving a check for approximately $600.00. Over the weekend, I had 2 separate contractors estimate the work. Both contractors estimated their total cost (including labor and materials) to be approximately $200. This will leave me with roughly $400 from the insurance company. What am I supposed to do with this money? I surely do not want to commit fraud in any way. Should this money be returned to the company, or is it mine to keep? I'm located in PA

I suggest you return it because its not "yours to keep", but to be honest, the insurance company wont know if you dont.

Wrong, the money is yours and you are under no obligation (legal or moral) to return it. Save it in case the initial estimates you got from the contractors turn out to not be enough.

Congradulations OP. you have just recieved a 400$ refund from your homeowners insurance.

Make sure the roof is done proper, and enjoy that dinner out with the wife.
