What is the name of your state? Georgia

I posted this because my friend who married my brother wants to tell her mom that she is married and now has a baby but doesnt want her to be able to press charges against her husband who is 21 she ran away from NC at 16 and is now 17 is she a legal adult in Georgia and can her parents press charges even now after they have been legally married?

Sure they can. Your brother was pretty damned stupid to bring a minor across state lines and marry her. Her parents can have the marriage declared void, and have your brother charged with all sorts of things including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, enticing a minor across state lines, statutory rape, etc. Your friend? Not a hell of a lot brighter.

Good grief. Why are 16 year olds in a hurry to get married? At 16, I just wanted my driver's license and to go off to college, to get to travel, to be ON MY OWN finally. The absolute last thing I wanted to do was go from being dependent on my parents to being dependent on yet someone else.

Also, your "friend" is probably not legally married:

Age Requirement
What is the minimum age a man or woman may marry?
You must be 18 years old or older to marry without parental consent. A birth certificate may be necessary to show proof of age.

What if one or both of us is younger than 18?
If either partner is under 18, parental consent forms must be signed. You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you are under 16 you can not marry without a court order. A minor who is pregnant does not need parental consent as long as the pregnancy is verified in a written statement by a licensed physician.
Oh wait, let me guess - she was knocked up when they got married. What an intelligent brother and friend you have.

she got married at 17 legally because she was pregnant before then and in GA all you need is a paper from the doctors saying that she is pregnant. She went to the courthouse with my brother and got married by the judge. So they are legally married but what is the legal age of an adult in GA because my freind who is 29 said that he ran away at 17 and his parents couldnt do anything.

So can they press charges all her life or is there some point where it is no longer in her parents hands?

They have a few years after she turns 18. Tell bro that he shouldn't bend down to pick up the soap.

how long is a little while, shouldnt it be when they turn 18 they are no longer a dependant of their parents and they no longer have a say so in their life.
And she ran away my brother didnt take her across lines they just met up in another state and she ran away because he mother was abusing her and her brother was sexually abusing her and trying to get her to do drugs, so it wasnt just a "I don't like it at home anymore" it was a " I have already contacted the officials in the state and they just put me back in the home and didn't research long to see if im in trouble so I'm gonna take matters into my own hands and get outta here"
AFter all she is 17 and married

A little while is a few years. I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is, but it's going to be on the order of 3-5 years AFTER she turns 18. Your brother is still liable for taking her across state lines and knocking her up.

Many teens today are used to being served everything without having to earn it or appreciate it. Of course they are going to choose having someone else pay the bills instead of becoming a mature, responsible and selfdependent adult to be proud of. To hell with personal development, improvement and freedom when you can shop all day with someone elses money.
I'm glad I'm not a teen today. I made sure I travelled the world and saw something else in my teens and that's priceless. And no one can ever say I sponged off someone else after I moved out of my parents home.

Sad to see it going downhill in fast forward.

The fact that he didn't physically take her across the state line doesn't matter. She went there to meet him, right? Fine, he's responsible for her crossing the state line.

Your brother made a stupid decision. If he's lucky, he won't have to pay the consequences for the rest of his life.
