Student A is the child of the parent doing the questioning and Student B is another child in the same class. Can the parent of Student A question Student B about a bullying incident, while on school grounds, without first getting consent from the parent of Student B? Both Student A and Student B were victims in the same bullying incident. Is this a violation of FERPA or another law if a parent asks another parent’s child questions about a school incident that happened to him/her?

FERPA doesn't even enter the equation.

new here, sorry

I am new here and I was wondering if you could tell me which place would be the most appropriate for my post about child questioning at school. Thanks! Also, the school told me this was a violation, so they are wrong?
Thank you.

Thanks for adding the question here :)

There is nothing illegal about one parent questioning another child.

Why the school told you it was a FERPA violation is beyond me. Perhaps they can explain their reasoning to you?

Schools + their employees have to abide by FERPA... which has to do with student records... you're not even in the same ballpark.
