OP, I think you're mistaking getting a home inspection (which costs money) with calling local code enforcement to see if the home meets code requirements.

These are two different groups; code enforcement will not charge you.

And by the way, I am new on this site so not sure what you are meaning by that.
It's most likely a reference to the unpleasant CS thread:
https://forum.freeadvice.com/child-support-98/hes-full-right-540612.html

The ladies on that thread (and they ARE ladies, in every sense of the word) most likely receive CS. They deal with NCPs (most likely) who constantly bitch about how they are "sucking X dry" or aren't using it properly.

Essentially, they most likely deal with over-controlling, petty arseholes, who seek stringent accounting over every last dime of CS they receive. Women who make sacrifice upon sacrifice for the best of their children ~ and those sacrifices go unnoticed, unappreciated, etc, by said bitching, whinging NCP.

Often, said NCP takes more time and trouble to bitch about said CS and the spending of such, than NCP does asking after their children's welfare.

Typically, such single women that sacrifice for their children get a tad bit testy over such skewed priorities. If she doesn't bitch and whinge about the sacrifice SHE'S making, why do you think she'd be happy to hear YOUR bitching over having to send in a few $$ a month?

Simply put, you said the wrong things to the wrong people.

eh.. Im over it.
I know I take care of my own and pay my dues so that's all that matters.
I could careless about sending money issue cause I already do, I'm doing what I am suppose to be doing.
They all make it sound like I'm a terrible person cause I speak my mind on a topic. It's kinda funny actually. lol.

With all due respect, YOU might be, but considering that you're asking the same people (the ladies on that thread are VERY respected contributors and contribute here in the LL forum often) for their help, I'd be more concerned about them.

A good philosophy. One you might consider using in reference to the CP in your case, too.

Just because a thought flitters across one's mind doesn't mean said thought needs to see the light of day.

It's kinda funny actually. lol.
Obviously. The ladies in the other thread seem quite amused, eh?

How or what do I look up for code enforcement? Having a bit of an issue trying to find the person to dial.

They just make it sound like all single mothers are perfect and none of them abuse the funds that are given for CS.
It annoys me cause I know that is not always true.

RJ your city / county zoning dept- building inspections can tell you if there is a local or state law that requires windows to be draft free ( weather stripped ) or not , many states -localitys in winter heating zones have such ords. If your homes windows -doors are to be draft free then when you send LL certified letter include statute - ordinance number as well.

Yeah I plan on doing that.
Thing is the LL refuses to give me her last name and mailing address, I find that a lil strange.
Even the lease papers she signed you can read her first name but her last name is just a scribble..
Im finding more and more things a bit off with her the longer I stay in the house.

Your LL gets property tax bills from the county, it is public information call your county property tax desk , give them this homes street address and ask them to what address do they send the property tax bills, This is your LLs address, your city , county can tell you if they have licensing ords that require rental homes to have rental lic posted with LL contact information in a viewable to the public place. ( if a rental lic is required it too will have LLs address on file if there is one but LL is not posting the certificate -lic .

I heat my whole 2600 sq. ft. house with a single fireplace insert. On the level where the stove is its 72 degress - 80 degrees (depending on outside temps of 15-40 degress) and upstairs its 64-72. So, there is no reason why a stove won't heat a whole house unless the BTU output of the stove is too small for the dwelling.

I don't see how a renter would know the BTU level of the stove prior to move-in & would take the word of the LL.

Electric heat is the most expensive way to heat, as the OP has shown.

So this is a hard one to decide ... the lack of proper windows mat also play a big factor too. So the stove might actually be OK for the Sq. Ft. but just not for a drafty house. Now if the stove is not rated for the sq.ft. of the house then the OP may have a better case given that the LL said it would heat the dwelling. The OP should try to determine if the stove is designed to heat the size of the dwelling. This might be easy, might be impossible..all depends on the stove's identifying markings....the OP should post back with this information, it may be useful.

I think that anyone would have empathy for this renter. $300/mo is alot of money for most people.

How or where can I find out what kind or size is the wood stove?
From the looks of it, it does look pretty small and my house is quite large.
I pay $1,600 a month for rent and I have other obligations as well as cs, so $300 electric bill is a bit much for me.
As I was saying before, I can get a fire going but it only heats the room that its in.

I wouldn't be complaining so much but when I was told one thing before I moved in and it not being the case is really kind of irritating.
I have my son over quite often and I have to keep him in his room most of the time with the wall heater running cause its so cold through the rest of the house.
