If the credit card company gets a judgment against you in your commonwealth, they can get your stuff and sell it to pay the card off. There are limits on how long a judgment lasts, but I do not know what they are in your jurisdiction.

If there is any way you can start paying on this before it goes to court, you really need to do it since you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle.

Money does wonders.

Call the company and then follow it up with $.

"strawman" scheme is crap and a scam, ignore it. The things they tell you to do are also illegal.. so you do NOT want to touch it. There are other LEGAL ways to deal with this.

The only way to deal with it is pay it. Contact the people who are suing you and tell them you want to work out a payment plan.

Get everything in writing.

Keep good written records of everything you do and who you talk to, etc.

Keep copies of everything.

Pay on time....

Hey phas dont listen to senior judge, apparently he must be a collector or is in the collection business.

If you look at the reply you might note that all are saying the same thing, "work it out" "pay your bill" ect, ect, ect, you should heed ladynred's information she is the best.

Here is an example of what I was talking about

Seniorjudge says
"Is there is any way you can start paying on this before it goes to court, you really need to do it since you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle".

"Money does wonders. Call the company and then follow it up with $".

Dont do this becuase you will pay forever with interest, fees, penalties, and other charges.

The SeniorJudgebill collector kissup says
"The only way to deal with it is pay it. Contact the people who are suing you and tell them you want to work out a payment plan".

Hold on there. There are limits to what they can sieze once they get a judgment and its unlikely you will lose anything at all.

You need to file your Answer to the Complaint within the time limit or you will lost automatically.

Who's name is on the account ?
Besides DH's disability, do you work ?
Do you have joint bank accounts ?

Here's some info on how to Answer the Complaint:
http://www.legalhelp.org/answering_complaint.htm

http://www.legalhelp.org/affirmative_diffense.htm
I looked at this site. What a howler! This is one of the funniest sites on the web:

"If you do not have a good list of them use the following because it will generally cover 90% of all possibilities -- and most often in the law, if you do not claim a right you lose it and affirmative defenses represent that claim. List on separate lines the standard affirmative defenses which include:

1) latches,"

OR, if you can't find any "latches" maybe a good padlock will do! :D
