Look, I don't think anyone here wants to help you to find ways to evade your responsibility. You've already received the best advice you can get - and you're ignoring it.

DO NOT DISCUSS THIS WITH ANYONE BUT YOUR ATTORNEY.

If they're actually going through with an investigation, there's a good chance that they have more than simply an IP address. They may have a witness. Or shipping documents from a store with your name. Or fingerprints. Or something else.

Get yourself to an attorney and stop talking about it.

Kiddo - you've gotten good advice. Stop talking about it and see a lawyer! Because the way you're presenting it? You really were the one who broke into the car and are now trying to figure out a good story that might work. WE see that w/no proof of anything - the cops are going to see it, too.

No one knows what evidence the police have so no one can possibly tell you what is going on.

Yes, it is possible that an IP address alone could lead to misleading conclusions. But that may not be why they're blaming you.

Now, stop talking about it and go see an attorney.

Yes, if your home network(wifi) is unsecured, anyone within about 100 ft of your house could have used your connection.
