Starting with "I have concerns" and "Do you have any suggestions" would probably be a step in the right direction :) He may be unreasonable anyway, but you never know. If nothing else, at least traffic should be pretty light (comparitively speaking) by then. You should be able to find a list of all the closures on traffic.com or local station http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/traffic/ so you can plan a route if needed.

Go to 511pa.com, which is the website that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania uses for road and traffic info.

Maybe print up some pages showing travel advisories(of which there are quite a few)between you and dad.

Keep them in case there is an issue "down the pike"(did you see what I did there:D).

Just wanted to add that per NOAA, the river has already crested inHarrisburg at just over 25 feet, and per the forecast is not expected to rise, FWIW.

I should have foreseen that this area would be hit by remnants of two hurricanes in a span of less then 14 days dumping months worth or rain in a few days?
Let's be accurate when you get to court, it was the remnants of one hurricane and one tropical storm.

I agree its good to have some documentation about weather conditions. Maybe you could even call the highway patrol and ask their opinion...as "due diligence". You can give these pieces of info. to dad as backup for your concerns.
MY concern as a parent, for you, OP, is that pickup is at 9 PM. Granted, if conditions weren't so bad now...you could offer an earlier arrival time...but 9 PM is totally dark. If I were concerned about possible flooding, you couldn't catch me on a road at night with a youngster. Thats simply protecting the welfare of your child.

Personally, I found Bali's posts on this thread quite amusing - and suspect they were meant in that spirit.

Given the circumstances, are you sure that dad hasn't evacuated to somewhere else already?

Where he is now could be much easier to drive to....

I emailed dad and texted him that I was very concerned about the dangerous conditions and if we could set up a make up weekend. I have yet to hear back from him. It's actually raining pretty bad where I am at the moment and we have a lot of water on the roads now. I wouldn't call it flooding, but there is water everywhere.

My biggest concern was also that it would be dark when I traveled. The earliest I would have been able to leave would have been 4:30 because my youngest ones don't get off the bus until 4 and then they have to pee get snacks etc. His dad normally isn't home until 8 or 9 anyway.

My lawyer wasn't in his office today, but the secratery gave him a msg and he called back saying he didn't think it was reasonable TO attempt to travel today. He told me that it's bad enough that he felt that I would not be in contempt because it would be putting the child in danger.

I will take screen shots of the current road conditions and links to some news articles just encase he pitches a fit. I will also look into purchasing my own helicopter for future situations like this.
