And late at night after going to a ballgame in Anaheim, I've gotten home from Irvine in just over an hour. Hell you could take the train back in almost the same amount of time.

Depends on where in Irvine and where in SD. For me, it would be 74 miles.

Business travel is not usually "late at night," unless the company requires ungodly hours.

You are trying to debate this issue with US...and WE have no authority to make this situation any better for you. We have already told you that its your employer's decision as to whether or not to give you any compensation for the distance...and we have already told you that whether or not any compensation would be excludable from income depends on the tax code. They are two completely separate issues.

You can keep making your arguments here...but that won't hold any weight with your employer.

Your argument fails. Irvine is not out of town for purposes of overnight travel. I KNOW people who live in SD and work in Irvine. Just because YOU think its ungodly doesn't make it out of town travel. Again, for purposes of perspective, after rush hour, your 74 miles will get driven in an hour. That's 7pm for people who don't drive a car.
