They should have a zero tolerance policy on bullying also, but that's just my opinion. The mental anquish from bullying can be as bad as any punch in the nose, I don't get it why the school system doesn't see it that way also! I didn't want my son to respond the way he did either, but if you've ever been pushed to the limits then you understand. I've been there, so I know how it is.My son's school, at least on paper, has a no tolerance policy regarding physical violence and should my son engage in brawl with a child, even someone who has bullied him, he risks the same suspension/expulsion that the bully would. A violent response to violence is not the answer, IMO. I would rather my son feel comfortable enough in his school officials that he could go to them if there is a problem--and be taken seriously.
It's torture for kids, it really is, verbal abuse is as bad as physical abuse, especially for kids because this is happening in front of all their peers. Maybe this is a sign for you to stand up to your school system and be an advocate for zero tolerance for anti-bullying.
