If you have a photo release form which new employees are required to sign, in the State of Iowa, how old does the employee have to be where a parent is required to sign the release form? Is it 18 or 21? And can you please reference where this can be found in Iowa law, if anywhere?

Thank you,
Kevin

Thank you for the replies and the code section - we have a photo release form created by a previous HR manager, and on the form in two separate places it referenced 21 years old or younger needing a parental signature, instead of 18...

This is oddly phrased. As previously noted, in Iowa (as in most states), the age of majority is 18. Upon reaching the age of majority, a person gains the capacity (i.e., legal ability) to enter into contracts on his/her own behalf. Prior to that age, a person can be bound only if the minor's parent or legal guardian has agreed. After a person reaches the age of majority, a parent or (former) legal guardian will generally no longer have the ability to sign on the person's behalf.

Will any persons signing this document be in state other than Iowa? For example, the age of majority in Nebraska is 19, and in Mississippi, it's 21.

Perhaps the current HR manager should create a new form.
