I was pretty lucky actually. The leasing agent told me right up front that there were kids in the unit above me, so I knew noise would be coming with the territory. She did not warn me about the mom's obsessive vacuuming habit, probably because she didn't know....but again, I knew there would be noise, and she only very RARELY vacuums after midnight :) It doesn't bother me that much. But the leasing agent wanted me to know what I was getting into, I guess so I didn't become a chronic complainer who moves out as soon as the lease is up :)
