I recently purchased a designer handbag online. Upon receipt and close inspection, the handbag turned out to be a fake. The seller claims on the website that they will make a full refund, however I have emailed and called but the seller seem to be avoiding my request for a refund. How should I proceed in this case? What are the pros and cons of filing a small claims on the seller for selling me a fake handbag?

Thanks for any advice.

I doubt very much that a seller who would pass off fake handbags as real would honor a promise for a refund.
If the OP follows JetX's advice, it may not matter.

If she files a dispute with her CC company, then she should also send back the merchandise.

One word of caution: If you used a debit card, you cannot dispute that transaction.
