Not sure why were being insulted here...for being concerned parents? Maybe if there were more of us....
Either way before you call us irresponsible, you may be more responsible and CAREFULLY read our post.
1. We planned this AFTER the school schedule was released
2. It is not a family vacation, there is an annual convention that me must attend for our business and we noted that we have no family to leave him with.
Again no need to insult us or anyone here, we come here for help. Why cant people be nice to each other?
So you knew that the child had classes scheduled and chose to take him out, anyway? Please don't act like the school's schedule change was material. Your child will be missing Iowa tests rather than classes - which is not that big of a difference.
There's a problem with your story. If it's a convention that you both have to attend, who's going to watch the child while you're working? Or if only one has to attend, then the other one can just skip the convention this year. Problem solved.
Bottom line is that you're not going to get in trouble for taking your child out of school. The principal might yell at you a bit (I hope that you don't have a nun in charge).
The question of whether you should change your plans and have one parent stay home is one that only you can make. Iowa tests are used for 2 purposes:
a. To measure the school's progress against other schools
b. To measure the student's areas of strength and weakness.
If your student has excellent grades across the board, the Iowa Test probably won't tell you anything you don't know. If he is struggling in any way, the Iowa Test can be invaluable in helping to define an action plan.
