For dlw... clearly what you missed in my posts re: privacy with electronics, was where I said "in my house".

They can definitely post on facebook or whatever with someone else's phone, or my phone, or their own phones, or from their laptops when I'm not home. But they know/understand that I can and will randomly log into those accounts and monitor their activity. Same with their email accounts. Same with their phones.

I would not prevent my children from communicating with their father via the web - but if it was going to happen in MY house or on MY time, then you bet I'd have the password and access.

If it only happened outside my house? Well then, it's out of my purview and therefore nothing I can do about it. But I sure wouldn't encourage my kids to be sneaky and lie about it to their other parent.
Looks like Dad's not coming back, so I can't keep guessing what his situation is. Thanks for clarifying your point of view, CJ, I didn't read it that way.

When I was in a similar situation, my kids eventually found their own ways to call me, away from their mother. It occurs to me that this guy's children, at 11 & 12, could probably do the same. In time they probably will.
