I am an adult entertainer in Illinois and recently a group of good doers was posting a wanted ad for info on me. They are trying to shut down my business by asking for personal info on me. They were advertising that they were going to post this info on their website to embarras and humilate in to quiting. They said they would tell my family friends and neighbors what I was doing for a living if I did not shut down my business. There were about 7 postings by this group

Those these threats were not made directly against me they were posted about me. Yes I am an escort but do they have the right to do this? They say they do since there are boards like this all over the country and even mentioned a few of them that are in operaton.

I have a lawyer who is a client and he was no help. I have since posted this guys name and number (even though I am not 100% who it is) on several boards and the same lawyer is telling me that I have broken the law.

Who has broken the law here and can I get this guy for blackmail and stalking? Please help

The fact that you are an escort is not priviledged. And it is not a falsehood.

Therefore, anyone can post the information in any form they wish and you have no legal recourse.

If you don't want your friends and family knowing, then it's simple. Quit. Otherwise, the law affords you no protection.

Also, if they are contacting your friends and family and your business suffers, does that mean that your customers are your friends and family? I thought not. Your business would suffer because you choose to reduce your business because you are shamed in front of freinds and family.

Read the IL laws on stalking and see if their conduct matches. I would highly doubt it since they don't seem to have any intention of ever meeting you.

Foxylady,

These people are going to be walking a very fine line when using this strategy. The threats are more related to invasion of privacy or intentional infliction of emotional distress claims than to defamation.

You need to find an attorney who specializes in such claims or who has at least had some direct experience with such intentional torts. I don't believe that any of the posters who have added to this thread, have actual experience in this area.

I may do a little research for you over the weekend so check back here in a few days. If I can't find any more info for you I'll at least post THAT fact by Sunday night.
