I have stopped to assist stranded motorists in the past - in the Detroit area, no less - - but I would not necessarily stop for everyone. Calling 911 seems a relatively easy, and undoubtedly safer, alternative.
Even if deciding to stop to offer a motorist assistance, however, I just can’t imagine myself negotiating a roadside trade of $1000 for a watch. This seems a scenario more likely to play out in a Walmart parking lot from the trunk of a car.
