You might want to open a history book before you open your mouth. Name ONE thing Mary Beth Tinker did that put her in danger or at risk in anyway. She also didn't go around staging events. She was a 13 year old junior high school student.

I couldn't care less about Mary Beth Tinker or whatever she did or didn't do. You can drag out examples of people who protested through allegedly nonviolent methods (yeah, they were nonviolent, but many others may have been killed or hurt because of their incitements), but none of them have anything to do with a high school kid who wants to be disrespectful to our founders, veterans, and leaders because he disagrees with some current policy.
Standing for or reciting the Pledge has nothing to do with whether one agrees or disagrees with some current event or government decision. It is about what we stand for as a nation. It is about a committment this country has made over and over to help others around the world to have liberty and better lives. Obviously we aren't always right, but there are hundreds of millions of people today who owe their freedoms and lives to American soldiers and leaders and citizens who stood up for them....just like in Iraq!
Or, do you and your butt-sitting comrade actually think the Iraquis were better off living under the foot of Saddam. And, the Afghanis were better off under the sword of the Taliban? I suppose you think the Vietnamese, Laotians, Koreans, Philippinos, and other Asians wer better off under communist thugs or the Japanese Imperial Army? And you believe Europe would have been better off under Hitler? I'll bet a few million Jews, Catholics, and others would disagree.
There will always be thugs, terrorists, and despots. There will always be poeple who are enslaved or oppressed. Who do you think should step forward to help them if no one else is? Apparently not YOU or your butt-sitting buddy.
