After contacting alot of people on Monday morning, The Attorney General, all local news stations and an attorney, I got a phone call Monday night at 8:15pm, from the cemetery, telling me that the "ERROR" has been corrected and the marker was replaced on the grave.
**A: that's good, now get the bill paid.

The money for the funeral expenses has already been paid out to the The Administrator of the estate, the Grand daughter, it is her responsibility to pay that.

**A: somehow I can see that not happening anytime soon.
Maybe the estate needs to sue her for stealing the money.

Whose name did you say is on the contract for the funeral/burial services? Your daughter, right? And the contract doesn't say "if daughter is appointed to administer the probate estate." Right?

I am not unsympathetic. The granddaughter should be horse-whipped. But, at the end of the day, if there is no other money in the probate estate and the granddaughter cannot be found and forced to repay the estate, what is the funeral home/cemetery left with? According to what you have said, your daughter's signature on the contract.

Just for informational purposes, once a stone is set, the additional date (death date) is put on with an engraving tool at the site. The cost of taking up and then replacing a monument to chisel on another date would be quite prohibitive. They're heavy. Glad to hear your situation is corrected!

**A: I had a client who had the headstone removed for engraving and gold leaf. The engraving was elaborate with flowers, vines etc.
