The restraining order has expired, so the firearms provision has also expired. The problem the guy has is this a black mark when it comes to getting a security clearance.

I think it depends to some extent on what the restraining order was for.

I wouldn't want someone who has commited domestic violence to his wife running the streets as a police officer carrying a gun. My ex is a hothead who has no control over himself. And to become a police officer he'd have to pass a security clearance. Especially after the quote that "he should have killed my boyfriend (back then neighbor and nothing more) and myself when he had the chance to" I really hope that this guy will never be able to carry any firearm.
