Not to argue the point but think about it;I realize that but he already said that there were no debts.
Op apparently doesn't have a copy of the will and it relaying what the executor is saying. Do you think the op has a true knowledge whether there are or aren't debts? What about funeral costs? Any bills associated with his death (hospital, ambulance, ????)? There is surely the real estate taxes and the costs of probate. He has lived with the decedent for 6 years but unless grandpa exposed his entire life to the op, it is unlikely op can say with certainty there are no debts to deal with.
I would want something more than simply op stating there are no debts.
