Update

Is the OP still here?

Do you live in the upper west corner of this state?
Wow, I forgot all about this post. It popped up when I typed my own name in google. A lot has happened since then. So far a sucess story. First off, my child was misdiagnosed. He had torette syndrome and there was absolutely no awareness or tolerance at the time for such a rare and misunderstood neurobiological disorder. He had a hard row to ho but had an amazing professor from a local university recognised the symptoms monitered him for quite a while & got everyone in the right direction. She volunteered her time and built a team for him. I fought the school tooth and nail to get him back in regular classes while learning how to advocate for him myself and also learning & clearing up misconceptions about torretes even I myself had from media. Five years later, we have a very outgoing high schooler who is quite popular in school and very active in sports & music. He has over come so many obstacles and is just simply put a good kid. Thank you all for your advice. I wish now I had of checked back on this post. It may have saved me some trouble. But our struggles make us stronger and I wouldn't trade the strength i've earned from being his mom for anything in this world.

We are from North East Mississippi, :)

Thanks for the update! I had a terrible experience with special ed in the 80's for similar reasons, gifted but ADHD and no one knew what to do with me, I basically didn't learn anything from first grade until getting back into regular classes in 7th grade and the damage to my ability to learn and study was never really repaired. I also didn't get properly medicated for my ADHD until college, so that made things worse, but the system totally failed me and my mom didn't have a clue what to do to fix it. I really hope my kids will have a much better experience in school than that.
