I believe Mississippi does have an age requirement for streetrods. Thus the question about age.

The other option is to "drive another car under it", i.e. change the chassis and use the "salvage" vehicle for parts.
I do not intend to do that just retain the car as is and drive it on the road.......in its current form it does not in any way present danger!!!!!

O.K. Just jumping in here.
Poster, who says you need to get a salvage title?

If the insurance company "totaled" your vehicle, because damage surpassed the value, they usually allow you to retain it (for a price). So who changed your current title to a "salvage title"?
Ok. The insurance company allowed me to retain the vehicle. No one has changed the title so far. But my tag expires in September and my question is since I have been paid in full by the insurance agency, do i need to apply for a salvage title? And if so how can I get a new tag so I can drive the car on the road? i do not want to do the repairs as they are purely cosmetic!!!!!!!

So why can't he pay the $75 bucks and get the car inspected?
i dont mind paying the $75 and get it inspected. My probelm again-
1) The car after the accident has been paid off in full
2) No one advised me to get a salvage title but I found that information online which stated I am required by law to file for a salvage title
3) So when I file for a salvage title i do not get a tag
4) If i dont have have a tag, how can i get one w/o a rebuild? Does the law require that I get a rebuild to get a tag or that i prove my vehicle is not a hazard to get a tag
5) If I need a rebuild I can go out and buy another similar vehicle, else I can drive this same car on the road!!!!!!!!
6) Is the 75$ inspection a police inspection on a rebuilt unit? In which case it doesnt make sense as I dont intend to rebuild it!
7) and finally I dont want a "salvage rebuilt" title or a "salvage title" or dont mind having a salvae title for that matter, i just want to drive my car on the road thats all!Currently the title is clear!

Hi,
No one asked me to apply for a salvage title. But I would assume that the DMV is informed by the insurance agency that the vehicle is a salvage which means they will not give me a new tag when the time comes to renew rt? I had repeatedly asked the insurane agency if i need to app for a salvage title and was informed - NO! I did read online (IOWA LAW, not MS but I would assume it shudd the same everywhere) that I am required to file for a salvage title. Is this needed? I dont intend to sell the car, just retain it, drive it and junk it when the time comes!!!!!!!!!!So nothing illegal is being done here!!!!!
please advise!

**An insurance company which obtains title to a motor vehicle as a result of paying a total loss claim resulting from collision, fire, flood or other cause shall obtain a salvage certificate of title in its name for such vehicle from the State Tax Commission. The provisions of this subsection shall not apply to vehicles ten (10) years old or older with a value of One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) or less, or to vehicles with damage which requires the replacement of five (5) or fewer minor components, which such insurer may dispose of by endorsing change in ownership on the certificate of title using space reserved for reassignment of title by licensed dealer without obtaining a salvage certificate of title.

**You don't obtain the salvage title the insurance company would. So call them back and ask them if they are going to do it. Then they probably can explain why or why not.

**I'm assuming and just assuming they don't think the damage done has affected the vehicle to where it is unusable.

**Or the fact that the car is older than 10 years.

Post back and let us know.

I called State Farm and asked the team handling my claim if they had filed for a salvage title.
They said - " No we have not filed for a salvage title. All we have with us are a copy of ur title and a salvage retention form. So if you want to do anything else its ur choice, but we havent filed for one."
so I hope this means its ok and i will be able to apply for a new tag when the current one expires.
