What is the name of your state? Connecticut

child lives with mother - father pays child support. If the child drops out of school at age 17, does the father still have to pay child support? (Note: Mother is doing nothing to try to keep the child in school - which includes even telling the father).

yes. unless the kid dies, gets married, joins the military....gets legally emancipated etc....(it should be outlined in the divorce decree and the state guidelines) Dad is legally responsible until age 18.

though it is nice when parents share information, Dad should be taking responsiblity into his own hands and contacting the school directly to see what he can do to help his kid finish school.

I agree - the father should be AND has been going to the school (many times) to stress that he should be notified AS WELL AS THE MOTHER - He has even done this in writing and the school is letting him down as well. -- The father cant do anything if he doesnt know whats going on. His son skipped 23 days of school in 3 months before they called the father - this is after written request to be informed directly. - He goes into the school to meet with Principal, etc - and come up with a plan - son skips school again - father only got called once...out of 4 times the child skipped. Father pays for summer school - son starts skipping school again - school NEVER calls father - father finds out through a neighbor - when he calls his EX - she tells him she knows.. -- Oh..to add frustration the father continuously tries to call the house - but know one bothers to call him back.

This situation is totally wrong - the father has absolutely no idea what else he can do to help the situation. He has asked repeatedly for his son to come live with him - but at 17 - the child want NO RULES and NO GUIDANCE...

Well take any suggestions. This father truely loves and cares about his son and will take any action and try anything.

Let me add - that the father doesnt mind paying child support - the idea of trying to stop child support was based on a "hope" that if the mother stopped collecting $$$ for the child - then she might kick the child out and he would have to go live with DAD..
