If you elect to go this route, endeavor to have the case decided by the judge, not by one of the many arbitrators they have available. (This will likely require you to come to court 2, 3,4 or more times before the case can be heard). Given the important legal issues with your claim, I think your chances will be notably better with the judge.

Why does it seem there are a few details we are not being told. Almost sounds like this was a set up of some sort.
