What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin/Illinois

Okay, so I'll start out by saying I have $80,000 of student loan debt, and no way to pay it off. I'm wondering if there is any legal avenues I can take based on the situation.

I went to the Illinois Institute of Art from 2007-2009, after which I was not allowed to continue due to outstanding student loans. I left school and started trying to repay them. By the time I tried to get back into school, none of my credits would transfer, despite the school claiming they would. A couple months later, the original school cancelled the program I was in, thus making it impossible for me to return and finish my degree. The only other option I had would have been to transfer to the branch of the school in Wisconsin, which closed a couple months later. I've been unable to repay or even bring the loans current enough for forbearance. Is there anything I might be able to do, legally?

Thank you for any insight or help you might be able to give me.

So did you ever explore any of the avenues given to you the first time you asked about this issue? And how has the number jumped from $50K to $80K? Did you attend any additional schooling? Why do you say you've no way to pay?

No, I didn't attend any additional schooling. So back when I posted the first topic, there was a class-action lawsuit against the company. I don't think anything happened with that. All communication on that kind of shut down. The jump in numbers I believe is mostly interest. The last topic was also before the only school in the vicinity that offered my program had shut down. I have no way to pay due to my other bills and basic living expenses. I've been working crappy part-time jobs just to survive, and have no extra income to pay my loans.

After an extra 6 years of doing nothing at all, the window in which you had an opportunity to dispute anything has long since closed.

Your options at this point are pay it off best you can, wait for them to give you absolutely no choice about it or hope they'll forget about you.

In some (rare) cases, students can discharge their loans in bankruptcy. Alas, that's not an option for you since you would fail the Brunner Test.

Can't check the posting history. It appears to have been deleted.

Yes. Go get a couple of jobs and bust your butt. Keep your living expenses to the bare minimum and pay it off.
With a couple of years worth of hard work, you will be able to retire that debt.
