Hello, I am new here. Work in Indiana. I am originally from India.Currently I work at a firm and manage IT. In the last few months, my boss is systematically taking away my original role and responsibilities and giving it to my peer who is is his favorite. my job responsibilities are transitioned to a resource who does not have a background as I do in operations. He has given me a project that has no funding next year. The signs are clearly heading towards a layoff. What are my options, what should I do now?

I agree with doucar. There does not appear to be any other option. I see no legal option for you, at any rate.

Agree with the others. Time to seek employment elsewhere. Preferable to do your seeking while you are still employed.

I've worked in IT for 30 years. This is typical in the industry. Not only would I start looking for a new job, but if your employer has a tuition reimbursement program then look into getting new certifications or training over the next few months on your employer's dime so that you are more marketable. If your employer lays you off you don't usually have to pay those back. If you leave voluntarily then you do.

Oh, and when production systems start crashing and burning because your clueless peer doesn't know how to maintain them properly, you get to sit back, grab a bowl of popcorn, and watch the dumpster fire from a safe distance since you're no longer responsible for them.

OP had better check the plan documents and any agreements he may have signed on the subject before he signs up for anything for which he expects to be reimbursed. Over my 30+ years' HR experience, I've seen loads of people - laid off or otherwise - bitten in the backside over this issue.

That's why I said usually, not definitively. Even if you do have to reimburse the employer, many will pro-rate the tuition or certification fees, and if it shortens the time you're unemployed or it means you qualify for a higher salary then paying for the cert yourself still makes sense.

I live in Indiana. As I tried to register today, it showed I had an old id.

Thank you for responding to my question, Winsome. It wouldn’t have changed the answers you received either way, other than perhaps eliminating your option to collect unemployment or enroll in classes.

I do not understand why you say I do not have the option to collect unemployment?
