I live in North Carolina. About two weeks ago, I was on a video conference with the CEO and the President of the company. (They are known to be unstable and abusive.) They were both screaming and cursing, threatening people's jobs, and repeatedly using the word "retarded." The president screamed directly at me and I said, "You need to take some of that bass out of your voice when you talk to me."
So, he began yelling, "Get him out of here! Get him out of here!" I signed off the call and started packing my desk, and he came to stand over me and watch me until I left. I don't know what I would necessarily want to (or be able to) do at this point, but I hope there's some way to apply some accountability for this toxic behavior and discriminatory language. Two of my colleagues who were also on the call left the company immediately afterward.
Happy to hear any kind of feedback or advice, and thanks for reading!
