I'm so sorry.
It's a hard, and thankless job & getting more and more dangerous.

My prayers are with their families.

This is one of the reasons some of us get torqued when we hear the media begin a story with, "It was a routine traffic stop" ... today it was four officers ... in the last few years I have lost one friend and a number of "brothers of the badge" to similar incidents.

There ain't nothing "routine" about them.

So, I apologize in advance to some here, but I may be a tad cranky for a while. Especially since it's time to break out the class A uniform, white gloves, braid, and polish ... for yet another friggin' funeral ... or four.

Sorry to hear about this sad event Carl, I'm sure it is hard for you, your department and your family to go through these things. It must really hit home how quickly things can go bad and how suddenly someone you love can be gone. Very sad,,,

What was this about people taunting the police at the scene?
Meanwhile about 20 people taunted police near the scene of the first shooting.
That is just an unbelievable and callous thing for people to do. How freaking ungrateful,,,,

That story is what I was listening to on my way home from work this morning; I was most offended by the situation. Even if you weren't blood brothers with them, I still understand how this situation is affecting you. My deepest condolences, Carl.

Horribly sad and senseless. The officers were all so young. It sounds like they didn't have much of a chance against Mixon.

I am sorry, Carl.

My thoughts, today, are with the brave men and women that protect me and mine from those that would do us harm.

Carl, my heart is heavy with your loss. I am sorry.

My thoughts are with the officers' families also.

We had a situation here in IN yesterday where a 19 year old and a 17 year old in a stolen truck were pursued for 56 miles. It finally ended after the truck rammed two police cars. As far as I know, no officers were injured.

Thanks to you all for the kind words.

As soon as they are up I will post any memorial link or family trust fund info for those whom might be so inclined to offer up words of hope or able to assist their families in some small way.

As for the twenty or so verminous scum that taunted the officers at the scene fo the original shootings, apparently they were screaming things related to the BART PD shooting from new year's Eve ... which, of course, had NOTHING to do with Oakland PD or these two officers. Some people are just foul.

In my small county we had a plot by some local gang members to set up a couple of officers on a phony vandalism call and then snipe him/them as they arrived at the scene for the report. Fortunately, the girlfriend of one of these rodents dimed them off and the ringleader was hooked up later that night. Unfortunately, the family of two of that agency's sergeants have been threatened and they now live under a cloud of concern (and they live in MY city).

There is no citizen who wants those sworn to protect us to suffer from that oath. I join the others in expressing my support and sympathy.

However, threats to the family of those involved is beyond the pale. While despicable, I can get my head around a person who kills a police officer. Hate or fear can take many forms and we all can suffer them in certain realities. Don't misunderstand, I find the thought abhorrent and those who do or consider such deserve the worst our society can met out. But, extending that to the family is something beyond my ken.

What have we become?
