What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My father passed away a year ago. He left me his house, and now I can no longer afford it.

The title of the house is in my name, but I haven't been able to refinance it in my name, therefore, the mortgage is still under my father's name.

If a foreclosure were to take place, would that show up on my credit? I am doing everything I can to short sell it, but if that doesn't happen (at all/in time) is my shaky credit absolutely gutted?

Thank you,
Gryn
