It isn't that people cannot sue for defamation if it applies, but most of the time the cost will really outweigh what the suit is worth. Also, when has someone come in here with anything resembling the situation with Tom Cruise?It isn't as simple as saying that everyone can sue for defamation because one person has.
The definition of defamation is:

1 : communication to third parties of false statements about a person that injure the reputation of or deter others from associating with that person
see also libel slander New York Times Co. v. Sullivan in the Important Cases section
compare disparagement false light slander of title
2 : a defamatory communication <every repetition of the ~ is a publication *W. L. Prosser and W. P. Keeton>

Many people who come here are stating that information which is true is used as defamation. Others will also state that they were defamed when no damage occurred.

Honestly now, you didn't hear what you wanted so you have come back to cry about it. Your reputation as a pizza delivery boy would be worth about $30 but could cost you thousands to defend. Would it be more responsible to tell you to pursue legal action, or to tell you to get over it?

Please link the thread where Tom Cruz asked a specific legal question on this site and responses to it. Otherwise nothing you have said here is relevant.

Please cite the thread where a response was given to Tom Cruz. Responses are based upon the facts. There are some instances where a suit will be more successful than others, but there is no case without facts and damages. Who knows what Tom Cruz's sexual preference is, Rock Hudson dated women and married, yet was gay. I NEVER gave Tom Cruz any advice.

I was thinking the same thing. Probably does a non-driving job and doesn't have to be handling any money.

If he was delivering, he would just keep what ever he couldn't deliver when he got lost and wait until he got caught and then blame it on someone else, saying he brought it back. He is waiting to be on the job long enough to fake a back injury or maybe stress and go out on workers comp.
